NO SHAME THEATRE was established at the University of Iowa in the fall of 1986 by Todd Ristau and Stan Ruth. It grew into a national phenomenon with No-Shame theatres in almost every state in the US today. But, in the years since its birth at Iowa, it has been lost from our university, welcome to its reincarnation.
The purpose of No Shame is to provide a recurring safe space for young artists to create and experiment with our art. No Shame strives to be an environment that encourages artistic expression of all kinds and test out new work in its most unstructured form. We encourage failure and imperfection without judgement. Everyone is welcome to attend, performing not required.
Bring your shame, and we’ll exorcise it!

How to No Shame
DO:
Meet in the Theatre Building parking lot @11:30pm Friday
Bring a piece of art, skits/scenes/anything your heart desires. Keep it under 5 minutes, it should not be polished
Bring lawn chairs/blankets/snacks
Sign up at arrival, we will draw names out of a hat to determine the order of performance
Join the email list in case of last-minute changes/updates

Bring alc
Be an asshole
Take photo/video without consent
Have any shame
By participating in the Student Organized Theater Performance of No Shame Theater, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
1. Assumption of Risks: You understand and acknowledge that participating in a theater performance involves inherent risks, including physical injury and emotional distress
2. Release of Liability: You release the student organizers from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to your participation in the theater performance
3. Indemnification: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the student organizers from any and all liabilities or claims made by third parties arising out of your participation in the theater performance
4. There will be no alcohol
5. Photography is allowed only when requested and consented to by the performer
By participating, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Release of Liability Waiver and agree to its terms.
